 "GREEK FESTIVAL 5K INLINE SKATE!"

SEPT 11, 2004. RACE RESULTS "R" IN.

Another beautiful sunny morning of 65+ degrees.  32+ skaters came out to partake in the 2nd Annual Greek Festival 5K Inline Skate Race & "Toga Roll" through the streets of Salt Lake City this Saturday September 11, 2004.  Skaters lined up at at 8:30am awaiting the firing gun at the Start. The first few blocks of the course through the Gateway plaza road were truly a navigational challenge even for the best of athletes. The street was reminiscent of the old cobbled stone streets of ancient Greece. Imagine doing a race over cobbled stones with wooden wheels strapped to your sandals back in those days?  Once past the plaza de' obstacles', skaters could turn on the heat and flow through the closed course without compromising speed.   KC Boutiette, Olympian speedskater and world class inline skater, crossed the finish in a time of 8:12 with pro-skater Dane Lewis glued to his wheels with a finishing time of 8:13.    Eva Rodansky, first women to cross the finish,  pulled into 3rd with a time of 9:12 with Mark Green chasing her draft and arriving into the finish at 9:14.  The last of the skaters (Cleopatra, the Sweeper) made it into the finish in a whopping record slow speed of 25 minutes.  Awards were  presented for the Top 3 Male & Female skaters.   Lots of prizes were handed out to skaters including: Skate Bearings & DVD's  from "Twin Cam",  complements of Eddy Matzger & the Workshop Clinic,  "Salomon Inline" Tees and Water bottles, and Skate Lessons from "SkateNow".   Everyone walked away with a prize in hand and a smile on the face.  Well....almost everyone.  On behalf of all the skaters, our thoughts and prayers for quick healing & recovery go out to Julie, who took a spill near the end of the plaza road.  We hope to see you back out skating soon!

A HUGE "Special Thanks" goes to Patrick Burton, Greek Festival Race Director, for including the skate race in this event, and supporting the community of inline skaters here in Utah. And, another Huge "Thanks" to all the volunteers: those who helped on the course, Salt Lake City Police, Salt Lake EMT's, Event Timers, and others who helped  in the promotion of this event.

This race was timed manually, and the course was shortened, from 5K to approx 4.9K (approx 1/10th of a mile), due to finish chute issues beyond our control.  If you notice any time disrecpencies, or your race results are not listed here, please contact us and provide us your bib number and we will make every effort to accurately revise the standings. Thanks.
